How it works

To onboard new partners, we start by getting to know your operations - then, where there's a fit, we present you to our community for funding. Here’s the simplified process in getting started:

Step 1

Start using Eddy

Digitize your collection via our Android app with easy data entry, even in poor internet areas, with multiple languages and varying digital literacy.

Step 2

Build your data history

Every kilogram of plastic collected can be audited from collection to final destination with a GPS tag, a photo, and an AI-verified audit trail.

Step 3

We assess the fit

We look at your operations, your community, and most of all the additionality your project creates. If there's a match, we fund you via our community.

Step 4

Access additional funding sources

We have seen various examples where project partners receive additional funding outside the CleanHub community - simply because of having the compliance in place that international donors are expecting.

Who we're looking for

We work with a small number of partners at any one time. We need to be selective to ensure the quality of verification for our community who fund the plastic credits. Here's what we need to see.

 A clear baseline

You can prove that the communities you are operating are heavily affected by the plastic pollution. Collection systems are non-existent or broken. And we prove how people and nature are affected by this.

Clear additionality

Additionality is key. Our partnership must create new collections that wouldn't have happened otherwise. Typically, the clear cut case is for the recovery of  non-recyclable plastics that have no market value. In certain scenarios, like very remote settings, this accounts also for recyclables.

Again, we need to understand and verify the additionality of our funding and identify the funding gap that our funding will fix.

Operating in proximity of the ocean or water ways

Our mission is “for clean oceans”. This is what our community is passionate about and what they are funding. Thus, projects need to be in proximity of the oceans (50km) or a waterway that leads to the ocean.

Legally registered

You must operate as a formally registered entity - SME or social enterprise preferred. You can be a for profit or an NGO, this doesn't matter to us.

Post consumer waste

We focus on post-consumer waste only. That means households, informal waste collectors, or community drop-off points including small business or hotels. But no primarily commercial or industrial sources.

Fair pay & decent conditions

We understand the context in which you work. And while we do have some red flags (child labour, forced labour), we are fine with a baseline that might be below our standards. Yet, there needs to be a clear commitment from your side to improve and over minimum wages and social standards.

Scaleable & long-term

You want to grow. We're looking for multi-year partners, not one-off projects.

New collection. Verified proof. Real credits.

Plastic credits only hold value if they represent something that genuinely wouldn't have happened otherwise. This additionality is what separates credible credits from greenwashing.

A typical example: an operator already collecting recyclable plastics partners with CleanHub, and with our financial support, begins recovering non-recyclable plastic from the same communities.

That new volume, fully verified through Eddy, is the additionality that underpins a credit.

Technology built for the Global South

Our technology was built from six years of working in remote coastal communities and river catchments across Asia, Africa, and LATAM. We understand spotty connectivity, multilingual teams, varying degrees of digital literacy, and the logistics of collection in these areas.
