How GOT BAG Built a Verified Plastic Trail Turning Trash into Treasure
Case Study
The Challenge: Verifying Ocean Impact
GOT BAG is committed to making a positive impact, making travel products made from recycled materials like Ocean Impact Plastic, which reflects their passion for the oceans. Through their NGO partner, GOT BAG Indonesia’s Clean-Up program, they partner with local communities, and are building waste management systems. The plastic waste is turned into valuable resources, making environments cleaner and strengthening livelihoods.
GOT BAG needed a rigorous, transparent, and auditable system to verify every kilogram of plastic collected from its source to its final processing. Sourcing from 19 informal collection networks in Indonesia required a technology solution that could operate in areas with varying literacy levels and limited connectivity.
The Solution: CleanHub's Track and Trace Technology, Eddy
GOT BAG uses CleanHub’s track and trace system, Eddy, to create a verified, audit-proof trail for all recovered plastic.
The system digitizes the entire supply chain workflow in three stages:
Registration at Source (The Collector):
Local collection partners, including fishermen and community members collect waste from beaches, riverbanks, mangrove forests, and the ocean, then deliver the waste to a collection point.
A community leader uses the Eddy app to scan the collector’s ID, weigh the material, and log the specific type and quantity.
The app captures real-time data, including photos, weights, and timestamps, ensuring proof of work at the source.
Warehouse Processing (Mass Balance):
Upon arrival at the GOT BAG warehouse in Indonesia, the waste is registered a second time, sorted, and processed.
This secondary registration ensures accurate mass balance reporting for all material types - checking for double entries, bad quality data or inaccuracies.
Final Recovery & Public Tracking:
Once the plastic is sent to a recycling or thermal recovery partner, the partner registers the processed amounts.
Eddy updates the GOT BAG Plastic Tracker, providing public, verified evidence of the total quantity processed.
Eddy is designed to work in the realities of the Global South, offering a simple, visual interface and offline mode so collectors can log data without disruption, which then syncs when connected. This approach was designed from years of work in the field, creating a friction free process, designed for multiple languages and literacy levels.
Key Results & Impact
The use of Eddy provides GOT BAG with:
Audit-Proof Verification: The entire process is TÜV SÜD-verified under the ISO 14064-3 standard, providing an auditable, transparent record that assures the plastic recovered is validated with a tamper-resistant chain of evidence.
Enhanced Credibility: It allows GOT BAG to transparently prove its impact, registering every step of their supply chain, with all their data in one centralized place with reports and audit-ready data for recycling partners.
Fraud Reduction: Eddy's AI Auditor performs 14+ different checks on each data entry, significantly reducing the risk of fraud and data errors inherent in manual, paper-based tracking.
